Last Christmas I was with my husband and we saw a battery-operated necktie rack in a store. I asked him if he would like that as a Christmas present and to my astonishment he said he would.
Now, my husband has a closet stuffed full of clothes, and his neckties were in a dreadful state. He had three plastic multi-tie hanger sort of things, which were overloaded. The ties kept falling off them. If he wanted to select a particular necktie, extracting it would often cause all the other ties to fall off the hanger. He therefore only ever wore a very few of his neckties, the ones that were closest to the top of the pile.

I bought him the tie rack and he installed it very easily. We lease our accommodation so we can’t drive nails and screws into things. This tie rack simply fitted over the rail in his closet and was tightened with wing nuts. It holds 64 neckties, so he was able to go through his collection and pick out the ones he likes most.
He finds it so easy now. He simply presses the button to start the motor (the gadget runs on batteries) and a light comes on so he can see what he is doing. The ties rotate and present themseves to him. When the tie he wants comes around he simply releases the button and picks the tie off the rack.
My husband is not a tidy man. Before we got the tie rack, he would frequently drape his ties over chairs, because it was so hard to replace them on the tie hanger. With the rotating rack, he simply hangs the tie in the same slot where he took it from.
These tie racks can also hold belts and I am seriously considering getting one for myself to hold my necklaces.

Here are a few points to consider when buying a revolving tie rack:
Noise – some racks are quite noisy and could be a disturbance to your sleeping partner. Find a quiet one.
Capacity – find out how many ties you have the you want to be able to find easily, and choose a rack that will hold that many (and some room for new ties too!). Remember to include your belts if you want them to hang on the rack too.
Light – some tie racks include a light and that is very handy if your closet is dark inside.
Fitting – some racks mount under a shelf, others fit over a rail. Make sure you have enough clearance for the rack of your choice.
Power source – some racks take power from an electric socket, so you will need one in your closet. Others run on batteries so you will need to keep a spare set on hand.
Hooks – is there a non-slip surface on the hooks so the ties do not slip off?
There are many different types of motorized tie rack available. Here are some ideas:

Why wear a necktie?
These days, fewer jobs require a man to wear formal suit, shirt and necktie. With the advent of Casual Fridays and casual wear everyday, the tie has become more of a slightly quaint and not very comfortable accessory that is not really essential any longer. Also, men can now wear color in their shirt or jersey that gives them a boost, that in a more formal time could only be supplied by a necktie.
However, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Many men today wear a necktie from choice, because they like the opportunity for a splash of color, because it lifts their appearance and makes them look and feel sharper and more business-like. So many men have a collection of ties that they love to wear, even if the occasion does not arise very often.
Even though the necktie seems an anachronism in today’s casual dress standards, an awful lot of them are still sold. Many men automatically buy a tie when they buy a new shirt. Others travel to foreign parts, and a necktie makes a souvenir that is portable and light to carry, but that brings back all the memories of the thronging Asian market or stylish Italian boutique where it was acquired.
The necktie is alive and well and living in your man’s closet! Ties can represent a significant investment, so it is worth spending a few dollars on a proper tie rack that will allow him to choose his tie easily and keep it from falling and getting dirty and creased.
